One of the lessons I’ve learned is that a professional services firm doesn’t succeed unless the client does. In 1990, I was senior project manager for a client building a West Coast manufacturing facility. We had made errors in the design, and we acknowledged them, but we failed to fix them in a timely fashion. We lost the account. You can talk about strategy in our business, but your ultimate success is based on relationships.
